NOVELL NetWare Version 3.11
Installation NetWare
Novell NetWare Version 3.11 is a version of the NetWare network operating system released by Novell in 1991. NetWare was a dominant network operating system for local area networks (LANs) during the late 1980s and early to mid-1990s, before being largely replaced by Microsoft Windows servers.
Key Features of NetWare 3.11:
Network Operating System: NetWare was a server-centric operating system designed for file and print sharing over a LAN. It was known for its high performance and stability.
Protocols: It initially used its own protocols, IPX/SPX, which were self-configuring and performed well on non-switched Ethernet networks. Limited TCP/IP support was introduced in this version.
Architecture: NetWare 3.11 ran on Intel 80386 processors and utilized a 32-bit protected mode, which eliminated the 16 MiB memory limit of earlier versions and allowed for larger hard drives.
NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs): The functionality of the operating system could be extended through NLMs, which were dynamically loaded and unloaded modules.
File System: It introduced the NetWare File System 386 (NWFS 386), which supported larger file and volume sizes. It also added support for longer filenames than the traditional DOS limitations.
Installation: While earlier versions were complex to install, NetWare 3.x was considered simpler, with disk and network support provided by NLMs.
